Martin has extensive experience in fund management and business development. He leads the grant and challenge fund management practice area.

Martin is responsible for the technical direction and delivery of comprehensive fund management services, evaluations of complex portfolio programmes, and programmes supporting the identification and scaling of development innovations.  

Martin has been working in development for over 30 years, with more than 20 years of experience in grant programme management and evaluation. He has worked on programmes funded by institutional donors such as FCDO, Sida, USAID, EU, Big Lottery Fund, as well as non-government organisations, such as CAFOD. This broad experience has provided him with a profound understanding of the factors affecting the successful performance of grant and challenge fund programmes and how these should be addressed in both the design and management of the funds. 

Martin has successfully managed teams providing comprehensive fund management services for large grant programmes such as the £141m, Global Poverty Action Fund /UK Aid Direct, as well as teams delivering monitoring and evaluation services.  

Martin’s experience covers a wide range of development sectors including sustainable livelihoods, natural resource management, climate change, sustainable forest management and governance, health, post-conflict and post-disaster recovery, education and civil society strengthening. 

Martin has an MSc in Tropical Agriculture from Wye College, University of London, and an HND in Agriculture from the Welsh Agricultural College.
