About the job
This is a senior position which is being created to strengthen leadership of our established MEL portfolio and to grow it further, collaborating effectively with the in-house team and external associates. Working closely with the EPAL Director you will manage a sub-business stream and achieve revenue and new win targets, as a senior leader in Triple Line and a member of the company wide Operational Management Team.
Roles and responsibilities and the specific tasks you will undertake:
Business Development
- Leverage Triple Line’s track record and current portfolio of MEL services for economic development programmes to drive expansion of our pipeline and portfolio of projects, with particular focus on longer term client engagements, building on and developing Triple Line’s existing thematic experience in private sector development, youth employment, agriculture and inclusive growth.
- Build and grow strategic relationships with clients especially with foundations and bilateral donors including UK Government (FCDO and other departments), partners and consultants.
- Take an active and leading role across the business development cycle: track and position for opportunities, lead and work in bid teams, provide technical inputs, advise on teaming and engage in commercial discussions.
- Develop and contribute to thought leadership initiatives to advance Triple Line’s reputation and visibility in the MEL space, including writing posts / articles for social media, speaking at conferences and events and ensuring quality and promotion of external facing publications.
Technical Delivery
- Lead and deliver high value and strategic MEL contracts for economic development programmes, with MEL services including design, delivery and execution of MEL frameworks, monitoring systems, evaluations and impact measurement. Apply methodological MEL expertise, thematic expertise (e.g. in private sector development, youth employment, agriculture, financial inclusion, inclusive growth, energy transition) and team leadership skills, and establish good client relationships, in order to deliver technically strong work which meets client expectations and further consolidates Triple Line’s reputation. Manage and undertake design, planning, execution and client delivery of high quality outputs, on time and budget.
- Provide senior technical MEL inputs on current portfolio including advice, practical guidance, tools and support on best practice methodologies, and quality assurance of client deliverables.
- Senior level ownership of a set of business stream projects with responsibility for ensuring their delivery within budget, providing oversight and guidance to project / programme managers on financial, team and client management.
- Ensure gender equality and social inclusion is mainstreamed into assignments at all stages – design, methodologies, tools, processes, outputs.
Corporate
- Develop and deliver the strategy for MEL for economic development, working closely with senior colleagues, and lead and manage the team to meet targets.
- Line manage staff in London and East Africa – support them to manage their teams and deliver work in line with company values and standards (including on diversity and inclusion), policies and processes, including in relation to recruitment, on-boarding, line management, career and personal development and performance management.
About you
You will have an excellent track record of both building and successfully delivering high value MEL contracts to a range of clients through teams of international and national consultants, and will bring these networks and relationships with you to Triple Line. You work collaboratively with clients, colleagues, and partners, looking for creative solutions and creating an open, supportive, and high achieving culture which values diversity. You successfully manage demanding projects, secure new work and work effectively with senior colleagues to set and execute strategy.
Essential candidate attributes:
- Degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience
- Track record of leading and delivering large MEL contracts including for economic development programmes to a high standard, on time and to budget.
- Proven leadership and management skills, including of remotely located and geographically dispersed consultants of different nationalities, with proven ability to build high performing and effective teams and deliver high quality work through them.
- Strong technical skills in evaluation methodologies, monitoring approaches and frameworks, learning strategy development and learning facilitation and MEL for adaptive management and programme strengthening, with gender equality and social inclusion considerations mainstreamed.
- High level consultancy skills, including sound client relationship management and highly effective communication skills.
- Evidence that technical MEL work / skills are publicly recognised and promoted (e.g. blogs, conference presentations, publications).
- Expertise in at least one thematic area in the economic development space (e.g. private sector development, market systems, agriculture, employment, inclusive economic growth, energy).
- Network of relevant clients, partners and individuals in the MEL / economic development space.
- Experience of strategy development and execution including growing business through winning contracts.
- Fluency in English, with excellent oral communication, written and presentation skills.
- The right to live and work in the UK or Kenya and willingness to travel - frequently if needed.
Desirable candidate attributes:
- Master’s degree or other post-graduate qualification preferably in a relevant subject – e.g., Business, Economics, Geography, Political Science, International Relations, or International Development.
- Proficiency in French, Spanish or other languages.
- Recent experience of living or working in Africa or Asia.
