Experienced urban development consultant with a strong background in urban planning, climate resilience, and environmental sustainability

Andrew Charles has 15 years’ experience providing integrated urban development solutions combining a multi-disciplinary background in urban planning, climate resilience, and environmental sustainability.

He led the global Climate Action Planning team at C40 supporting all 96 cities across the network to develop robust and ambition climate plans. Andrew has also recently been Team Leader and Lead Urban Development Specialist on many projects including on Closing the Loop on Marine Plastic Waste aimed at reducing the environmental impact of cities in ASEAN by addressing plastic leakage into the marine environment; Urban Development Specialist on Urban Air Pollution Mitigation Plans in Cambodia, Thailand, and Indonesia; Team Lead and Urban Development Specialist on Smart Cities Innovation Labs in Cambodia, Indonesia, and Thailand; Team Lead and Urban Development Specialist on Localising the SDGs in Cambodia, Thailand, Mongolia, The Philippines, and Fiji; and Team Lead for scoping of the Integrated Urban Climate Action for Low Carbon and Resilient Cities (Urban-ACT) on behalf of the International Climate Initiative in China, India, Indonesia, Philippines, and Thailand.

He has worked for a range of partners including the FCDO, EU, GIZ, Cities Alliance / UNOPS, C40, UNESCAP, Rockefeller Foundation, 100 Resilient Cities (100RC), United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), and the Aga Khan Development Network.

Andrew holds a Masters in Urban Planning (MUP) from McGill University and a BSc in Geography and Environmental Studies from University of Winnipeg, Canada.
